Howdy, my name is Justin and I just recieved/bought a 1999 Silverado 1500. It's a regular cab V6 auto, nothing too fancy but it does me well. I've been tinkering with a 1991 Honda Civic for the past couple years and finally just said to hell with it. And I just got the truck for Valentine's Day/my Birthday/Christmas from my gf so I'm stoked :) I haven't been able to take any good pictures but as soon as I can I'll post them up. It's blue and in pretty darn good condition.

Now I wouldn't be me if I didn't want to mod this, so I need a little guidance. What would you suggest for power mods (cheap to start with) and then cosmetic mods. I'm already planning on a Rhino Liner and grill guard, dunno what else yet; I've only had it for a couple days :) But hopefully this one will do me well.

Also, are there any other sites/forums that would be good to check out also? Thanks

Welcome to the chevy world. You have made a good choice there. Probably best mod you could start with is an intake. There are lots out there, although most go with K&N. I'm interested in gettin a Rhyno liner myself, just started to look around. Another good site for info is gmfullsize.com. Good luck with the truck!

Well as far as exterior mods, the most popular is the billet grille. Since you had a civic id assume you would prefer the lowered look, but maybe you want something different. Let me know what you prefer, lowered or lifted, then i can help guide you from there.

Just an FYI, if you do want to lower it, do not put a brush guard on it.

A set of OEM fender flares worked wonders for the appearence of mine, at least I think so!

If you ever get tired of that girl, be sure to send her my way ;).

Most common first mod to any vehicle is exhaust and usually shortly followed by and intake. As far as exhaust goes its all in what you want, good flow, loudness, or a quieter muffler. I wouldnt recomend anything other than a flowmaster origional 40 or a super 40.

For exhaust I wouldnt recommend flowmaster for my preference. I would go with anything stainless however. Plust Flows tend to be the loudest in cab.

Not the 70 Series. They have very little cab noise at 60 mph in OD. Now you can hear them back there when you step on the gas, but nothing like the 40s.

ebay is a good source of cheap mods. Tailights, clear corners, halo/projector headlights etc...

sweet, getting ideas already :) I don't think I'm gonna go with the lowered look, i've always said if I got a truck I'd lift it and all. however, my girlfriend is not really for messing with the suspension. So I'm thinking of atleast getting a little beefer tire just to raise it a bit. I went to the Ranch Hand website yesterday and saw their grill guard and i love it. So I'm gonna take a picture of it to my gf's uncle who does metal work and hopefully he can fab one up for me just like it. As far as the exhaust goes, I want something beeifer of course, but it needs to sound good with the V6, make it sounder meaner. I don't care if the sound in the cab is loud (i had a loud friggin exhaust on the Civic, i dealt with it :)) I know flowmaster's are good, but i read that like magnaflow and other such one's are better, true? lastly, when i do this should i redo all the piping or would i be alright just replacing the muffler?

It's really hard to get a beefier sound out of a V6. I'd go for a little bit quieter muffler and stick to the performance aspect of it. Of course that's my personal opinion and just sharing it with you to give you another idea. :)

As for a lift, you can do a simple 3" suspension lift and it wouldn't cost too much and you'd get enough lift to make you and your gf happy. Sounds like you've got a great girl, I dont think I'd leave her either.

well what would be classified as a quieter muffler, like brand and all?

also, what brand and all would i use to lift it, and what all would I need? i'm used to lowering :) also, what is better, suspension or body lift?
