(91 S 10 4.3L 4 wheel drive ext. cab)
I got an XM radio and connected it thru cig lighter, (worked great even in a bad snowstorm! ) turned off truck pulled out lighter power adapter. When we restarted the vehicle I replaced the adapter and light er was dead. The car radio and cassette player still worked. Fuse didn't blow. Replaced the cig lighter with new one, also a new fuse for good measure. Now the radio is semi dead....a zombie. It hums but the digital display is out and nothing tunes in cassette player dead. Something's not right somewhere. I don't know where to begin. New cig lighter and overhead cab light is dead, but all the other things on that circuit work. Any clues? Where'd I go wrong. ( I brought the xm in the house and it is fine, glad I didn't kill that too! Thanks!

might you have had too much power going thru cigg lighter power wire and fried that wire atleast partially somewhere ? look for melted wire insulation.

i agree yet i dont, unless he has messed around and put larger fuses on that curcuit then he should not have melted through any wireing... i have no idea what the problem may be, but a fried wire is doubtful

yes, agreed. i 4got to mention i had bought super cheap fuses that turned out to not blow when they should. done after radio fuse blew. smelled burning. found original casue of good blown fuse to be former radio power wire cut/connect/tape had fallen off and started bouncing against body ground in dash.

further, since he says other things in circuit work accept his lighter, prob is with this part and wires. bad ground ?
