ABS light

I have a "96" Le Saber and the ABS light comes on on the dash, shut the engine off and re-start it goes off, it will come back on again sometimes in a block or it could be in alot of miles, any suggestions.

I have the same problem. Sometimes the light is off for a couple of weeks, then comes back on for day or two - then is off for a couple more weeks. It was diagnosed as a worn out Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Pump. Total cost to replace is approximately $1000!! I said no thanks to the repair shop last October and have been living with the problem since. My anti-locks are still working when the light is off, and I have confirmed that on my icy driveway. If anyone out there knows of a decent way to fix this for a reasonable amount, I'd welcome a reply.

You need to find out if this means that the ABS is actually not working. In a controlled environment,(IE Parking Lot, open road) while the light is on, stop hard from 20mph or so. If the tires lock up, quit braking and slow down slowly. If ABS works while the light is on, the problem lies elswhere than the functioning of the ABS.

I have the same problem I am going to ask my mechanic and see what he say's. I will post the answer

I know this may sound silly but, your abs problem could actually be dust in the teeth of the wheel sensor. I say this because you said the abs funtions correctly.

Well, that is a good reason for the light to come on, and is the likely the pulprit for a lot of people. My light came on less than two days after brake service, they had cleaned and checked the wheel sensors. I took it back and they said the modulator pump was malfunctioning. I haven't had the light come on in about 10 weeks now. Sooner or later I'll have to get it serviced, but I'll wait until the problem is more apparent before I spend the big bucks.
