Custom hood scoopjoeyfromwpg 02-12-2005, 10:30 PM okay i'm posting this thought i keep having. I'm still learning about mods and such so go easy on me.. And let me know if this is a stupid idea of mine. Okay I have a 1997 cavy with the 2.4 L engine, I also have the aem Short Ram Intake but my question is about universal hood scoops that can be mounted down to the factory hood. I'm researching different types that can be mounted and made into a true hood scoop by cutting out the portion of the hood under the scoop. Well the actual question is; What hood scoop would be best suited for this and where would be the best place to mount it for best results? And how would this effect performace in rainy conditions? Classicrocjunkie 02-12-2005, 11:34 PM For what your trying to do, i think you wouldn't like the out come. There is a Turbo sport CF hood that has a small cowl and directs air flow into that region under neath the hood. Personally i think that would be your best bet. Pricey, but would look alot better... just my $.02 -Jayson- 02-13-2005, 12:54 AM yeah homemade hood scoops usually look pretty bad. But if you know a wiz with fabrication you might be able to make it look good. Although i dont see the point of ram air on a cavy, its not like you can go fast enough for it to show any real performance gains. noshun 02-13-2005, 12:47 PM okay i'm posting this thought i keep having. I guess you mean as a fresh air feed for the intake for cooler denser air and not hot engine bay air. Your best bet is above the battery or strut tower so immediately in front or behind the filter, not over it as it'll get wet in the rain and this will rob you of power and you'll need to clean and re-oil you filter everytime. A scoop over to the side can look absolutely garbage without exact fitting and can still look wrong with it, due to the shape of the hood. if you cut some 'L' shapes into you hood over the battery and the bend down the metal inside the 'L' they will provide a good flow of cooler air with a cleaner look so long as they are done well. other than that an NACA duct would work well. They are commonly used on aircraft. In addition they also speed air-flow by their shape blitz/littledevil 02-13-2005, 05:01 PM just get a hood that has some form of a scoop on it noshun 02-13-2005, 09:06 PM just get a hood that has some form of a scoop on it But he wants a feed to filter I believe hence the mention of it. Most hoods would have a centre mounted scoop and would just dump air onto thefirewall above the exhaust manifold. There's also the cost. badron 02-15-2005, 05:20 AM He may also be talking about a NASA scoop? Under the hood. If you got room for one? If it's in the right place? Put in "bad air" and you can get a very slight vacuum trying to pull air out of the engine. They do best well up front on the hood. Look cool as he**. Generate all most no drag. Ho, yes did I say they look cool as he**. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
