95 Dodge Caravan Coolant LeakIlovemymoparz 02-12-2005, 04:21 PM While driving my 95 Caravan (3.0 Engine), it overheated. It was driven home hot, I waited for it to cool off and added coolant, then started it to check for leaks. I noticed leaks coming from the front of the engine through the timing belt cover, and also from the rear coolant return hard line. I did some checking and thought for sure my water pump was going bad. I filled up the radiator, and drove it around the block to get the engine warm and to verify the leaks. Well, I got half way around the block, and the timing belt snapped. I replaced the timing belt, water pump and o-ring, and all related gasket components. I fired it up, and there is still a leak coming out from the timing belt cover! when replacing the water pump, the hard line that the pump presses onto with the o-ring was flexible, or in other words I could move it around while fitting the pump onto it. Is this normal? or is that line cracked, broken, or something else? I have looked through my Haynes manual from cover to cover, and it does not mention anything about this. PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you, ILMM yogi_123rd 02-13-2005, 10:50 AM Just a note on 3.0L water pumps: (may or may not relate to your problem). I had the water pump done on my 95 Caravan at a garage. The mechanic, who did the job, told me a few tidbits of infomation. The water pump consists of a two piece design split down the middle. The after market parts stores sell both a complete water pump or just the outside half (which usually fails). My mechanic intended to replace just the outside half until he inspected the failed area and found the inside part of the pump was damaged causing the leak. He had to order the complete version of the water pump. The pump had be making knocking noises prior to the failure. It had worn a small hole in that inside piece from bad bearings in the impeller shaft. Reguarding your problem: It sounds like the water pump is still bad after you replaced it. You talk of o-rings which leads me to suspect this could relate to your problem. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
