1996 2.2 153k, Head Gaskett Replacement?? Bcubed 02-11-2005, 03:36 PM
Just wondering if ya'll think someone that has never attempted to do such an invasive mechanical proceedure, should attempt to replace a head gaskett? If so does anyone know of a website that might show you how to do this step by step? Thanks, Bcubed noshun 02-11-2005, 05:40 PM Just wondering if ya'll think someone that has never attempted to do such an invasive mechanical proceedure, should attempt to replace a head gaskett? Just don't pry the head off if you do. At least you don't have ohc to worry about! Classicrocjunkie 02-12-2005, 12:37 AM Haynes is very good on showing you how to do it. Don't over torque the bolts either when you put it all back together. Bcubed 02-12-2005, 09:08 PM Thanks for the advice. Got the haynes book. It is very enlightening. The leak I have in the head gaskett seems to have stopped. I did try some bar's stop leak a couple weeks ago but i wasn't sure if it had taken. The main reason I am having this problem is because the radiator cooling fan went out and I was sure what was causing the temperature to flucuate so much whenever I would drive the car. I replace the fan motor and relay today which probably could have, if i had done it sooner, prevented the head gasket leak. So a note to everyone out there: If your Temperature is Flucuating while you drive your car, check your fan, it is a simple $23.99 fan motor and a $10.00 relay. Go ahead and fix it, before it is too late. Not sure if I am going to tackle the head gasket thing yet. I might have to call in the reserves(father-in-law) to help tackle this one, maybe I will learn alittle in the process. I could type up a how to, but it would be darn close to that of what the Haynes or Chiltons would show you. noshun 02-13-2005, 11:58 AM Extra hands and knowledge is a good thing. You mean replicated from one of the aformentioned sources? deadBird 02-14-2005, 04:08 AM Warning: Could take you a whole day :) I'm considering it an option if I can't get my problem worked out. badron 02-14-2005, 12:36 PM Get new head bolts and retork no mater what the head gasket inc say Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
