3.1L V6 in a 1997 cavalier

If anyone knows if it is possible to put a 3.1L V6 out of a 1994 cavalier into a 1997 cavaler. I recently was told buy a guy that it would be a good option to do if i was thinking of putting in a new engine. I dont know a whole lot about the 3.1L V6.
