2000 LHS gas tank / fuel gauge
PTLHS 02-09-2005, 06:35 PM ? on my 2000 LHS. I know the gas tank holds 17, but I’m only able to fill it with 14 gallons when the fuel gauge reads “F” (the trip computer states 5 miles or less). Chrysler is telling me (via email customer feedback) that 3+ gallons are in reserve and that the fuel sender can’t “sit” on the very bottom of the gas tank (to measure all the fuel in the tank). Am I the only one with this problem??? Thanks in advance! PS: Also, after I fill it up and drive for about 80-90 miles… the fuel gauge reads ˝. It then takes about 160 miles to get to “E”. The low fuel light comes on about 15 miles (trip computer) left. bellaggio1770 02-09-2005, 06:50 PM I don t know man I don t know...my LHS behaves weird too, but it s pretty much the opposite than yours, first the gas level goes down slowly, and afer it passed the 1/2 line it goes faster. LHSDriver01 02-10-2005, 04:55 AM Chrysler did intentionally make the fuel gauge read empty, when in fact there is about 2-3 gallons left. The overhead trip computer will say zero miles to empty, when in fact you have at least 20 miles left. It's a safety measure to help you make sure you don't run out of gas. I've pumped in 17 gallons before. As for the gauge moving faster on 1 half of the tank... i haven't got underneath the car, but maybe the tank is not perfectly square? maybe it's smaller at the top and bigger at the bottom, like a trapazoid. If so, the level would drop more rapidly from full to mid, than it would from mid to empty.... just a guess.... PTLHS 02-10-2005, 06:20 PM Thank you for the info !!! I just pulled the tank from my 99 and the top is only about 1/4 of the size of the bottom of the tank. AutomotiveHelper.com, Copyright ©2013
