Hello:

Hoping someone can help me. The 4wd will not engage on my 1996 S10 pickup. When the vehicle is started the 4hi/4lo light briefly then go out. Pushing any of the buttons does nothing.

Any suggestions on what to look for?

Thanks!

I don't remember what the problem is, but one of my cousins had that on her blazer (either that or it would blink constantly). Look in the owners manual. It was a simple fix.

2 vaccuum hoses on mine run down behind motor, above exhaust y to top of transfer case to a switch activated when put in 4wd ... switch opens allowing vacccum to diaphram over right fender under hood which pulls cable leading to front diff which engages fron diff. light comes on from electric switch at front diff detecting movement of mechanism in diff.

check that vacuum hoses not burnt, cracked, disconnected ... diafram moving with cable connected. vaccum source attaches to ball thing fed by larger hose to engine vauum source.

i had to repace that plastic vacuum switch from top of transfer case for about $10 and patch hoses that were too close to exhaust pipe and burnt.
