I drive a 96 Transport 3.4L V6 and it has been really good to me so far.
Aside from some of the things I've found and fixed on the form IE Wacky wipers, I have yet to find this question so here goes

Since the cold weather say Sept 04, I have noticed a noise coming from the driver side rear that to me sounds like a bike chain that needs oil. I use to only hear it when i first exceleration then it goes away. Lately though i am hearing it for longer periods of time not to mention we've had a bit of a warms spell of late.

Anybody have any ideas what this might be

Thanks

I'd like to hear that....there is not much there ...do you have auto-leveller control? If so, could that be the compressor that "adjusts" vehicle height on first acceleration since that causes the rear end to dip down...and once done, it would not need it for a good length of time...unless it has a leak ...
Other than that, I'd think of a rattle from exhaust heat shield.....so...if you can record the sound and post the sound stream......

It's not the auto leveller I know what that sounds like. It is not a humming like the leveller it is more like a rhythmic chinking noise, for lack of a better word. Maybe a better description would be chain links that are skipping or changing gears similar to that of a bike when you change gears. The noise is not loud by any means but i do hear it and it is not usual. I will see if anything apears to have come loose or is in contact with anything it should not be.

Thanks

Oups....that reminds me of something really weird: check the rear brake drums: I had to change mine because they had cracked all around in a circle about one inch past the bolt circle and that made a clicking noise . Holding the drum up in the air against a bright background, I could see light through the cracks, and except for that, they were in almost mint condition.
