Coolant Block Drain Plugcmlind 02-08-2005, 08:43 AM I am trying to change & flush the coolant in my 2000 Cherokee. The manual says to remove the block drain plug and it will syphon & gravity drain out the radiator & block. I can't seem to get a wrench on the plug. It looks like it is square, but in between the 3/8" and 1/4" rachet sizes I have. Where can I get the right tool for this? JDPascal 02-08-2005, 10:40 AM An automotive store will have a set of square sockets for the square head plugs you describe. Shouldn't cost more than about $20 for a set of 4 or 5 sockets. If you have 12 point sockets they will sometimes work if the plug isn't too tight but they can round off the corners if the plug is siezed. JD cmlind 02-08-2005, 02:05 PM Actually it is a female plug. The square hole needs a tool to fit into it. I tried Autozone, and they had no clue. Maybe I better try Napa. JDPascal 02-08-2005, 02:19 PM They will have them too. Try Sears or any store that sells mechanics tools... you need the 5/16 square drive. JD cmlind 02-08-2005, 02:42 PM I will try sears.
