Hey guys Im new to the forum. I thought that you guys here could help me out. I have a 94' s-10 thats been sitting in the garage for about a year with a blown 2.2L. I work at a steel yard and the other day an older s-10 (88? 89?) came in with a 4.3 5speed. I think im going to rip out the 4.3 and rebuild it and put it in the 94'. What I wanted to know will the 5 speed tranny from my 94' work with the 4.3 or should I take the tranny out of the older s-10 and put it in my 94'. Also besides motor mounts and electronics what else would I need for the swap? Ive seen a couple posts about the V8 swap but not about the 4.3. This 4.3 and tranny are free so you cant beat that! Thanks in advance

I've never done an engine swap, but I would get as much of the original 4.3L combo as possible. No sense going through all the work only to have the 2.2L tranny trash itself because it can't handle the increased HP/Torque of the V-6. I would take along all the engine management computers from the V-6 as well.

Some other things to think about: Heavier springs for the increased weight of the V-6 might be needed. A larger radiator could be called for. Driveshaft slip yoke compatibility (the splined end that inserts into the tailshaft of the tranny) and driveshaft legnth (if the "new" V6/tranny combo is longer than the original I-4/tranny combo). Brakes.... the proportioning valve for the front rear bias may be different for the heavier V6.

Good luck with your swap.... maybe somebody who's done this will reply.

Is anything wrong with the older S-10? If not, I'd just take the entire truck.
