91 s10 blazer smoking caddiblack 02-07-2005, 08:17 PM
I have a 91 s10 blazer that I bought about one year ago. I have been fixing it up. New interior, caddi tail lights and a few other mods. This truck ran fine when I bought it. A week or so ago, I started it up to get it ready for summer and it has been puffing out a nasty smoke. I am a body man, not much for engines. I know the basics, oil chages, thermostats, spark plugs and so on. I have done everything on this truck and would like to fix this poblem as well. If anyone has any ideas please reply. I looked in the hanes manual, but it really dosen't touch on this problem.... Thanx Skeeter6755 02-07-2005, 10:01 PM I have a 91 s10 blazer that I bought about one year ago. I have been fixing it up. White, black or blue? -Skeeter6755 caddiblack 02-08-2005, 08:26 PM I have a 91 s10 blazer that I bought about one year ago. I have been fixing it up. It has a little tent of grey or blue, but is mostly white. Any suggestions? ricksza 02-09-2005, 06:24 AM White smoke is usually transmission fluid or water. There is usually some clear water coming out of the tail pipe and muffler drain hole, this is normal. After sitting for a while, sometimes moisture will accumulate in the exhaust system. This would clear up after about half an hour. Is there any residue in the tailpipe? An oily residue could mean that a vacuum hose is sucking trans fluid, possibly from the vacuum switch on top of the transfer case. Does the smoke have any odor. A sweet smell would indicate antifreeze. As in intake manifold gasket or head gasket. s10blazerman4x4 02-09-2005, 07:04 AM In my 91 i always have the billowing puffy white smoke. I tried fixing things to make it go away but what i did usually made the rig run better so i write off the smoke. When i replaced the old muffler and put the new one i cut down on it alot because the old one was clogged with black stuff. caddiblack 02-09-2005, 07:12 PM Thanks a lot for all of the replys. I had a friend come over and he is certain that I need to replace the head gasket. I ordered a gasket kit and he is going to walk me through the install. I always like to learn more about my s10. If anyone wants to know how hard it was to replace the gasket, email me in a couple of weeks, maybe i'll have a trick or two too pass on.
