2007 Camaro.... any hope for firebird?

I've seen tons of concept drawings for a 2007 camaro retro car. Is there any word if this will happen? (most articles say it's still a concept car and there's no definite plan) Also, are there any retro design firebirds on the horizon?

GM retired the Firebird namesake. Not Camaro.

I really doubt we will see another Firebird.

From what I have heard from Pontiac customer service officials they are not planning on ever bringing it back at this point but I bet within the next 5 years we will have a new Camaro.

really, since the GTO came into play, the firebird has become a thing of the past.. and since GM retired the name, it will never come back.

*it would be sweet if they did remake it.. some talks have instigated it may return someday under the name the Pontiac Pheonix.. who knows.. IMO, its not likely.

It would be great if they did bring it back...but as stated before, they retired the name, so it probably won't ever make it's way back onto the market again. :(

LOL don't you think they planned this? They make everyone thats "crazy" about the car think that it's never coming back....then all of a sudden it's back! and everyone goes and buys one. And sales sky rocket!

(I don't think that'll actually happen, but seems like a smart thing to do for a company)

j/k, I love GM but their marketing (and some cars) really suck, especially in the past. Good idea though. Camaro is bound to come back especially the way GM and chevy are going now with more rear drive V8's in the works, and I think the firebird may eventually to, just not half as soon as the camaro.

I expected to hear what you all have said and it sucks.... but it's not like I could afford it right now so maybe it's less painful this way. I am curious about how the 07 camaro will actually turn out. I love the 69ish design on the bottom, but the upper half is like a Regal/Fiero upchuck

I would rather the fbird stay dead than GM bring it back and make something ugly or worse economical.

I don't know if I want to see a new firebird from pontiac. They seem a bit lost at the moment. Between the butchered GTO, renamed G6, Toyota Matrix/Vibe, and the Solstice roadster, who knows what they are going to do next. Plus they really can't due to naming difficulties. It would be nice to see something based on the new Zeta platform though. I hear Buick is mulling over a new Grand National.
Oh well. As long as they don't bring back the phoenix. That would be really ugly.

Shit, they are retiring the Pontiac Bonneville too, that was a great performance/luxury fullsize car. I hear GM might replace it with some cross-over SUV, it's sad. They should do what people tell them to do, restylse these cars and not leave them with the same design going on for over 5+ years. Also it's nice to see they are making better quality cars in terms of interior materials. They need to work on the performance image a lot more. Look at Ford, they're doing pretty darn good, lol.

I don't want to see a new Camaro or Firebird. When I first saw the "new" Ford Mustang the first thing that came to mind was that this is the last generation for the Mustang. They couldn't come up with an original design that still said Mustang, so they made it look like an old one again. Where do they go from there? Recycle every body style again? I had the same thought when I saw the 2007 Camaro concept. They're using what the Camaro was to make some money and release a minimal number of them so they're special. No matter how much it looks like a first gen, it still isn't a first gen. And then the Camaro will retire again. I guess I just don't care for the retro idea. At least with the new GTO they didn't try to pick up on the body they left off with. Of course there were plenty of things they could have done with the body, but then again all the GTO was was an upgrade from another car. It was about performance.

I dont' think that mustang is dead... maybe the designers were on sabatical or something. I read somewhere that eventually mustang will be more high performance less economical. Gone are the days of American Muscle cars like firebird and camaro..... :(

My unlce works for GM as a dye maker. According to him, the Camaro will definatly be back; he is currently working on it. He also stated that if the Firebird is ever going to come back, they're keeping it a secret even from the workers. He says not to hold your breath. The Firebird is truly a car of the past; sad but true.

If a car like the firebird isnt in production anymore doesnt the mean good fer us as owners in a sense, the value will continue going up as years go by because of the increasing rareity of these birds?

Last I heard from a GM employee pal of mine is that when GM canned the F-body they breached their contract with the Canadian factory that was making these cars. So if they make a car with the name "Camaro" or "Firebird" they'll be in legal trouble. Maybe they could pay their way out of this, who knows.

Of course, we all know that they'll never use "Trans Am" again. They hated paying royalites....

As for a replacement. The funny part is "retro" is fading out, so this means that when it is dead and absolutely nobody wants it anymore, GM will introduce a line of retro vehicles for consumers to purchase.

BTW, GM did trademark the name "Chevelle" and I'd bet they will be releasing this in the near future. Expect it to be a shared Holden platform. (another GM source)

I think you'll see a "Chevelle" before you see a "Camaro" again. I wouldn't hold your breath for a "firebird" either. No word on them from my sources.

i would like to see the lemans make it back hey why not they brought the goat back. it is sad no more firebirds. the camaro is currantly on its way back to the street meaner than ever. hints from a cousin on the design team! some thing like the c-6 corvette will disappear for a breif moment to get totally redisigned because the camaro is said to out do it in every aspect. as for the chevelle lets just say it aint forgot

Yeah hopefully they dont bring it back like they did the new monteSS,a FWD POS.Could you imagine a FWD camaro?look out cause they did it to the monte carlo, they might do it to the chevelle too, since they always have been interchangable with the monte when it comes to steering/engine configs. If they are going to Make some badass chevelle in the future,i hope they make right all the wrongs by making a RWD monte too, cause they were great cars, they killed them tho making them FWD

I think I remember seeing a concept car or a drawing for a chevelle about 2 years ago.... from what i remember, it wasn't very cool-- it was more like a compact car thing.... but i could be halucinating, but i definitely remember something about he chevelle coming back but it wasn't retro

There are rumors that are floating around that say GM is working on a new 5.7L RWD car for Chevy. What I don't get is why they would let chevy have 2 big sports cars like that, but leave pontiac flailing in the wind. The "new" GTO and a underpowered Roadster are not exactly helping to fill the gap the birds left.

The red one is a pic an art student made for fun. The interesting thing is that GM bought the photos from the kid that made them after they got published in a car mag.
