:cwm27: First off I have a 2000 Chrysler Intrepid and YES it has a 2.7L engine. The other day I went out and started my car and it sounded like diesel engine so I shut it off and took it by flat bed to a reapir shop!! They told me that the timing chain tensioner broke and the part was covered under the warranty, I thought great 2 hours labour and I would have my car back. This happened on Feb 2 Wednesday, well you know the song by Cat Stevens well it's Saturday night and I ain't got no money, well it Saturday night and I ain't got no car!! Trying to find a little humor. The replaced the tensioner and put everything back to together and went to start it and the lights and everything came on as normal and it started to turn over no problem but it will not start! Has anybody ever come across this senario before? I would really appreciate some insight of what it could be?
They put it on he diagnostics and it come up with nothing, They replace the cam sensor, tested all the fuses, they say everything appears ok but just no spark, Please help!! My feet would be very grateful.:banghead:

What happened when the tensioner broke? DId the timing belt jumped the camshafts ...and somebody tell me if this is an interference engine or not, but then I'd remove a valve cover or 2 and see if valves open and close normally....and even then I'd check with a compression test.
..your "diesel " sound just scared me like pistons knocking the valves. Hopefully, I'd rather be wrong...but...

The 2.7 is an interference engine; you'll have to go back to the shop that worked on your car and have them do a compression test. Ask them what the results of the compression test are; if it's less than 100 psi, it's either badly out of time or you have a bent valve; either way, they're responsible for not catching that and shipping it off to you.

Did that repair shop put a timing chain in it also? That should been done also, common problem.Sounds like the timing chain is rubbing against the timing cover.I have seen that and do not let one go.Timing chain breaks and hole in valve cover. My father has one as a core from a guy that bought an used 2.7 from him.It has about a 3'' x 5'' hole in one of the valve covers. It is an interferance engine

The shop did a comperssion check and they said it was around 140 psi. No they did not replace the timing chain, they inspected it and inspected the guide trays all were good. They said the timing chain had anout an 1 1/2 inches of play and when the tensioner broke the chin would hit the guide tray causing the noise. Made sense to me because I have had no problems the car and once I heard the sound it was shut down and 1 hour later in the shop where it sits now. I read on a thread something along the same line on a 2000 breeze with a 2.4L and they unplugged the camshaft sensor and it started plugged it back on and it stop running, cause was the magnetic pick-up on the camshaft was loose or was dislodged, does that make any sense to you guys?
