heLLo guys, I plan on getting a new set of wheels n' tires for my rex and I have a question. Do you think it is better to get 17's or 15's and what would be the major difference (if stock diameter is retained). I am an aggressive driver but I like to occasionally race, but also enjoy corners t00. I found places like wheelmax.com that have lots of 17's for good prices but I can't find any place with 15's for similar prices....help me out guys

the difference in sizes is that the bigger the rim, the more bumps you feel. i would suggest 16" rims though.

the bigger wheel has a bigger moment of inertia.. which means: it takes more engine torque to get the same acceleration

it also means that the steering response is greatly reduced with the bigger wheel

i say go with 15s

they dont make a lot of the more show style rims in anything less than a 17 it seems. you have to look for more of a tuner/lightweight rim to get 15s, and 16s seem the hardest to find. Also, if you got 17s, you would probably want to get it lowered just so it doesnt have the "stomper" look. I have the si wheels on mine now, but I'm after some 16s with a nice lo pro tire, I think that would be the perfect size. The 15s look good with a regular size tire, but with a low pro it might look really small. But the low pros are nice for good handling. sorry for babbling

low pros give you less grip (argue all you want. its true) at the expense of that handling response

on top of that if you are not a great driver (and i doubt very many people here are) you will want a taller sidewall for the handling forgiveness anyway

when a low profile tire breaks loose, it does so faster with less warning

taller sidewalls, due to the flex give you more time to correct

the sidewall flex is also what gives you better grip

205/50R15 is the size i am going for in my project CRX

i could give a rats a$$ about show.. the car is gonna be all go, if it performs any function other than making the car handle or go faster, it wont be there
and the ONLY reason why the wheels are gonna be 15s is b/c i am planning a fastbrakes big brake upgrade (if i went with the integra brakes, i would be donning 13x7s with 205/60R13 or 205/55R13 tires)

besides, this is purely subjective but anything larger than a 15" looks HORRIBLE on a CRX anyway, lowered or not.. the wheels (they are called wheels, not rims) are proportionately too big for the car

I thought my nitto tires on my 17s handled much better than the michelins on the si wheels. maybe its just that much worse of a tire. you seem kind of pissy shadowboy, is everything ok? there is a thread in the wheels/tires section about the inertial influence of larger wheel/tire combos. and I agree, I thought 17s looked too large on my hatch, thats why they are sitting in my garage still.

thanX Marc tirerack has excellent prices for 15', 16', 17' wheels. That's what I was looking for. I'm pretty sure now I will go with 15 or 16s b/c I want a lighter wheel & ride quality. I was thinking of some Yokohama or Pirelli tires, what do you guys think?!

Oh yea.....i'm also looking for new springs to upgrade all the suspension from stock this summer, any suggestions. WIsh me Luck!!!! :D

calling wheels "rims" is one of those things that annoy me the rim is just the outside of the wheel.. the whole object is called a wheel

i got 16" on my car with 205/40's on there ride quality and handling is great.

15's are the best choice if your are going for performance. I like the look of a bigger wheel, but I would rather have a descent looking fast car, then a slow ass show car.

But then again nice looking CRX's are :coolguy: I mean just look at Worshp's CRX. Damn is it good looking. And he is rolling on 18's.

It all depends what you're after..if it's go, then go 15's...there are a huge selection of good quality tyres available in 205/50/15 which should give you great handling.

I'm obviously more into show, so i'm perfectly happy with my 215/35/18's:D
