I wanted to replace the fuel filter on my 93 (way overdue) at 126K miles with a new Purolator fuel filter...I know its in the frame alongside the passenger side...but where exactly is it? Do I need to remove my rear wheels to get to it? Or is further down near the fuel tank? Do I need to jack up the truck to get to it?

If anyone has a diagram or a pic of the exact location that would great! :cwm27:

It's mounted on the inside of the frame about halfway towards the back. Just look for a little round can with a hose attached at each end. Make sure you relieve the pressure or you'll be bathed in gasoline. Pull the fuel pump fuse and start the engine, let it run till it dies, then continue trying to restart it a few times, remove the gas cap and then just to be really safe I like to pinch off the rubber line on both sides of the filter with a pair of vice grips on each side. Replace the clamps while you're at it too.

With the pressure relieved, the engine will start hard after you get everything back together until normal fuel flow is restored.

As far as jacking up the car, it depends on how big you are, but it usually makes it easier to get it up in the air. Use jack stands to prevent geting yourself squished.

Thanks, catfuzz! As long as I dont have to remove the tire. I just needed an idea where exactly it is. Looks like I have to jack it up then. Also, thanks for letting me know what to expect after I change it...that helps so I don't freak out, lol....

Here's an update: Finally got a new fuel filter in there! But damn, what a mess!! First, you could tell its the old filter because it has the Isuzu logo on it and its rusty as hell!. Second, even with the tube crimps loosened, the tubes were hard to remove (do the twist motion here)....3rd (after I relieved the pressure), the hoses were off...but I was splashed with fuel! Make sure you have eye protection, latex gloves and rags...My right hand got drenched with gasoline. The tube near the fuel tank - gas was still flowing (not a lot though) I was running around looking for a plug...I grabbed the nearest toothpaste cap and used that as a stopper....geezuz, what a mess....the new filter was easy enough to install and I was up and running...2 min. later, the truck got sluggish. I have a feeling that the fuel needs to circulate completely - so this expected. Hopefully it should pick up tomorrow because its Monday and I need it for work...
