Can anyone explain the cricket in my engine? When in idle my engine squeeks. Sometimes it sounds like a cricket chatter.

Where in the engine is the sound coming from? Is it coming from the front area, near the radiator, or somewhere else? There's a lot of things that could be causing your cricket to chirp but it will help if you can isolate where in the engine bay the sound seems to be located.

The cricket in my engine seems to be coming from the cylinder area. Looking at the engine from the front, it's to the left of the top of the middle of the bay. Make sense?

What year and what engine to you have? Nothing pops out as to what the noise may be. The better you can isolate it... find out where it's coming from... the better the chances of finding what's squeaking.

Your belt, or your idler pulley or your alternator?

blazerlt hit it quite well, never spray anything rubber with wd-40, for belt luberacation, there is a product called beltease, use that

ya, i found out hard way from rustproofing with wd40 then later thicker longer lasting spray oil, that wd40 accidentally that got on cv boots dried and cracked those rubbers. they split. even after replacing them, they split again after 2 or our -30c winters. hewck with them, i keep filling and pushing in cv grease and push inside boot half in tight and stay out of sand and water.

i've had such noises. they can be hard to locate.

1 was cured by adjusting screw on left of carb bottom, i 4get what haynes book said it was, either mixture or idle.

other noise i thought may be alternator, or water pump, or steering
pump or ac compressor. i discovered it to be the ac clutch assembly by spraying oil in it with it running. with off i drop engine or diff oil, say a spoonful on that seem on top to let it settle in. loosened off belts that were bit tight to spare bearings on other pullys. no more noise. bar soap on slipping squeeking belt has worked til i adjusted tension or replaced with new.

tiny hole under center of water pump shaft will leak when that seal and bearing is going. not mine yet.

spraying little light oil may help find area of squeek. or metal or wood bar apllied to varios spots and your ear to see where loudest.

I'm think this problem is from the alternator or water pump bearing wearing out and dry.

throttle body base gasket

moderately spray the base of throttle body while running engine with carb cleaner. Idle will increase and cricket will shut up momentarily.

TB gaskets don't cause squeaks, they cause a hissing noise.

Mine did, very high pitched whistle(like a cricket) only at idle
gasket was burned out under the throttle linkage.
Also caused a little bit of a high idle due to air bypassing the closed throttle plate
