Hey what's up...I am new to this posting thread world of Automotive forums so alittle help would be much appreciated.
I am preparing to install a remote start in my 2001 Toyota Camry. I have done some research and most sites tell me that my 4 cyl. Camry has an OPTIONAL transponder. Anyone know how to find out for sure if my car has such a feature? I dont want to install the remote if I still need to purchase a bypass unit.
Thanks!

If you want to bypass it you can by a module that disables it and such from many of the companys that make the remote start kits. However the cheeper route would be to have a spare key made (may cost around 25-40 dollars) and attach it somewhere close to the iggnition like up behind the dash. We did this on a new ford not long ago, the key is close enough to activate the ignition to let it start. This has worked on every transponder key equiped car I have did this kind of work on, but I'v never did any on toyotas so I cant be possative that it will work.

Thanks for the info. Great idea on attaching the new key under the dash somewhere. We'll see what happens

Be carefull. You'll need to hook up the keysense wire to interrupt the remote starter's bypass unit. If not, sometimes the BCM will "see" 2 keys and lock you out for a spell.
