Transponder/Anti-theft devicesShane Sisk 02-04-2005, 11:29 AM Hey what's up...I am new to this posting thread world of Automotive forums so alittle help would be much appreciated. I am preparing to install a remote start in my 2001 Toyota Camry. I have done some research and most sites tell me that my 4 cyl. Camry has an OPTIONAL transponder. Anyone know how to find out for sure if my car has such a feature? I dont want to install the remote if I still need to purchase a bypass unit. Thanks! Shane Sisk TheSilentChamber 02-06-2005, 03:01 PM If you want to bypass it you can by a module that disables it and such from many of the companys that make the remote start kits. However the cheeper route would be to have a spare key made (may cost around 25-40 dollars) and attach it somewhere close to the iggnition like up behind the dash. We did this on a new ford not long ago, the key is close enough to activate the ignition to let it start. This has worked on every transponder key equiped car I have did this kind of work on, but I'v never did any on toyotas so I cant be possative that it will work. Shane Sisk 02-07-2005, 07:52 AM Thanks for the info. Great idea on attaching the new key under the dash somewhere. We'll see what happens ponchonutty 02-09-2005, 08:51 PM Thanks for the info. If not, sometimes the BCM will "see" 2 keys and lock you out for a spell. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
