'03 LS Sport Knifeblade_03 02-04-2005, 12:26 AM
Just picked up an '03 LS Sport for g/f. It fully loaded, sans power seats or interior lighting, but man the thing runs with the 5-speed Getrag. The question I have is, what makes the Getrag tranny different from any other manuals in the cavaliers? Knifeblade_03 02-04-2005, 01:00 AM BTW, we will be picking up a manual, Chilton's or Haynes for the model year/s, will let ya know, so we will have a walk-through resource for ya. cousincletus 02-04-2005, 01:40 PM Supposedly it holds up better than the older Isuzu tranaxles. My 2002 with the five speed even shifts well in the cold weather. There have been some having problems with the Getrag making noise in the lower gears, but doesn't seem to affect the durability of the transmission. Classicrocjunkie 02-04-2005, 02:15 PM Its pronounced.. " get- rag " when you sound it out... what language does it sound like... and then you will hit your forhead and go... oh duh!... better engineering.. nfg2184 02-04-2005, 02:58 PM I'm not sure where you were going like that, but "get rag" sounds like an asian guy with a really strong accent saying "jet lag". Is the transmission similar to jet lag? KJRich 02-04-2005, 05:43 PM Isn't Getrag a German company? Knifeblade_03 02-04-2005, 09:08 PM KJ, your pic. is identical to g/f's ride, she has the moonroof, though. Spoiled girl, huh? Thanks for sharing, and appreciate everyone's replies, thanks dudes/dudettes!!! noshun 02-05-2005, 01:21 PM Isn't Getrag a German company? That's what CRJ was getting at.. Only thing is though Mercedes-Benz are German and very unreliable!!!! Anytrhin Getrag benefits from much more development as they are probably the most widley used transmissions! BTW, anyone think borg-warner would ever develop a bone-crusher for the Cav.'s? Knifeblade_03 02-07-2005, 02:22 PM Oh, btw, seems neither Chilton or Haynes has as yet decided to publish the newer-year repair manual for the late-date model Cav.'s, ggggggrrrrrrrrrr. noshun 02-07-2005, 03:03 PM Oh, btw, seems neither Chilton or Haynes has as yet decided to publish the newer-year repair manual for the late-date model Cav.'s, ggggggrrrrrrrrrr.
