Any suggestions? My gas gauge suddenly stopped working the other day. Everything else works fine. Thanks!

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee and the gas gauge is stuck on full. It just happened last week. Is yours doing the same thing? Let me know how you fixed it.

Thanks

No, mine is stuck on empty. However, I found out that my fuel sending unit has gone bad. Bummer, the part is only $46.99 but the labor quoted was $141. I'm checking around for additional pricing. I found out that it is somewhat common for these fuel sending units to go out after some time. Yours might be doing the same.

Good luck on that. I'd be interested to hear what you found out as well.

My gauge went out 4 years ago with 32,000 miles and the dealer replaced the sending unit then under warranty. I spoke to dealer service rep today to find out when it was replaced and started asking some details. Rep told me it is either the sending unit, gas gauge or computer. He seemed pretty suprised that the sending unit would go bad again since they put a better brand sending unit at 32,000 miles and currently my mileage is at 65,000. The bad news if it is the computer the cost is roughly $600, if it is the gauge it is $150. Was your sending unit price at an independent shop or dealer? Anyways I may be using the odometer for awhile.

No, I had mine quoted at an independent shop. I may take it to a dealer and have them check it as well. I'd hate to have the sending unit replaced to then find out it was actually the computer or gauge. I'll keep you posted.
