Regular dextron/mercrom III is good, but suggest the Mobile one synthetic tranny fluid for the T-case. HOwever the tranny, use ONLY ATF3! I guess it doesn't like D/M III. Acorrding to the dealer.

I will second gtmud's recommendation for the transfer case fluid. Mobil 1 ATF is an excellent choice as is the Amsoil equivilent.

For the tranny, my preference is the ATF +4 that is made for the newer transmissions. You can change up to the +4 from the + 3 but you can't go back.
The +4 has made a bigh difference in how my 96 5.2 shifts in the cold weather.

If you are going to change the tranny fluid, how long since the bands were adjusted. One of the bands is only adjusted from inside the pan. Be sure and follow the procedure and specs for your transmission exactly if you do attempt it.

i agree with both, The ATF +4 is synthetic which I would recomend Amsoil.. If not mobil or an equilvalent should work well
