I have a 1996 isuzu rodeo and the check engine light keeps coming back on. I brought it to an isuzu dealer and they couldn't figure out what's wrong so they just wiped out the code. After two weeks, the light came back on. Now they're telling me to just drive the car in to the shop, leave the motor running and then they'll erase the code. How does that solve the problem??? Please help! My rodeo's registration is due soon but I need to get it smo checked first. I can't have it check with the light on, it will surely fail.

My 97 does the same thing, but check trans light comes on at same time and flashes.
