The guy I bought this 1985 S-10 Blazer from did some major work on it about 4 months ago (rings, bearings, new crank....) and a new rear gasket when he finished but right after it started leaking onto the exhust pipe and sinking and smoking......so I know there are a few strange things about this gasket and don't want to have to pull the engine to try another one.....any help? thanks

Rear main seal! ahhh those arent fun. ooh man sounds like he did a half ass job so he could sell it with no "problems". your probably going to have to pull the engine. is the work under any warranty?

You may be lucky if it's a 2wd, with a 2.8L V6.

about 1/2 of them in 85 had 2 piece rear seals, so you can drop the oil pan, remove the rear bearing cap.. then use something to push the top 1/2 of the seal out (the bottom 1/2 should be in the bearing cap) Then slide the new seals where the old ones were, re-torque the bearing cap, install the oil pan (with a new gasket)... add oil and your good to go.

The 2 peice seals were used on the older style engines, with the smaller diameter bearings, and the engines aren't as durable as the newer motors.
There is no way to tell the engines apart without pulling the oil pan
