Here's my latest, Fujimi's Mazdaspeed RX-8 A-Spec. Since I can't read Japanese, the only pictures I found searching of RX-8's that look like the model are B-Specs...slight differences in ground effects and rims. Whatever...it's a so-so kit from Fujimi. The bumpers were very sloppy, whoever worked on the bumper tooling was an amateur. The fit around the headlights was atrocious, and only one of the four flat surfaces that define the wheel openings was actually done correctly, all the other surfaces had to be sanded to look correct. So a few choice bodywork skills are necessary.

It's mostly OOB, I used the seats from a Revell Focus tuner. Paint is Tamiya light gunmetal, with a pearl clearcoat that was a white pearl w/purple flop...looks really cool, the overall color isn't much different, but the highlights are really nice...classy w/o being blingy. Windows were tinted w/Tamiya's new TS smoke tint...beware, it does tend to make the plastic go a bit weird, however it looks better than results w/Testors smoke tint. I had to adjust the chassis mount a bit to get it to sit correctly, not unexpected nor difficult. For a new kit it's pretty lame (body issues, interior issues, overly simplified chassis, high $$), but I had to have it, and it looks good finished.

Very nice and clean, paint seems to have an almost purple hue.

This has nothing to do with your building, but for some reason the proportions of the model look slightly off from the real thing. The line of the roof for example. Maybe it's just me..

Hey,

Looks like you did a great job. Too bad the kit isn't as good. The paint looks really cool. Nice clean build. Keep up the great work.

The buildquality is exeptional as always.
But what the hell is wrong with that model. It looks like they made the molds one eye closed and the wheels are so damn small.

Excellent!!!! That colour really suits the RX-8.

This is just the inspiration I need to get on and finish mine. I'm building the standard "Type S' and I've experienced all the same problems.

Thanks for the replies! I've got the Amemiya version to do next, it's got much better front/rear bumper molding than this one.

Here's one more shot...trying to get some outdoor lighting on it, and I found the wiper that had been knocked off during final assembly...

Thanks, the pearl coat started as Tamiya's TS 65 spray pearl clear, but it doesn't have much pearl in it... :screwy: I added a good bit of LMG (long OOP) pearl white powder that has a purple flop effect, so it gives the light gunmetal a slightly purple "glow" in the right lighting. BTW, I airbrushed the pearl coats, used Tamiya spray clear over the pearl, and then a second coat of Tamiya clear thinned w/Gunze Mr. Thinner and airbrushed. Tamiya sprays airbrush very nicely when thinned w/a bit of Gunze Mr. Thinner.

Haven't tried any of the pearls from HLJ...I have plenty of the old LMG stuff, and Micheal's and Hobby Lobby carry pearl powder sets too.

Great build! The color is very cool.
It's cool to see Tamiyas light gunmetal take on a new persona with the pearl addition.

Sad thing to hear the bodywork isnīt that good. Paintjob looks flawless. I like those mirrors :D And the RX8 remains to be a very very good looking car. Good job.
