2.3 Hihg output...? ImSoYesterday 01-26-2005, 01:52 PM
The 2.3 HO was jsut recently brought to my attention. What is the feasability I can hook one of these up to my car easily, if not easily what procedures do I have to go through. Also, what kind of mileage am I going to be lookign at if I do find one of these engines? For another question, do 'they' make performance parts for these engines? Your local aspiring A-F person-type-thing. (noob) Jordan Classicrocjunkie 01-26-2005, 03:24 PM http://www.ny-jbodies.org/forums/library/engine/2.3/images/Quad4_HO.jpg 1989-94 H.O.: (vin A) 180hp and 160ft lbs torque. Nothing more than trying to do a 2.4 LD9 blitz/littledevil 01-27-2005, 08:11 PM is there a such thing as crate motors like that that you can just buy outright? Classicrocjunkie 01-27-2005, 11:09 PM not unless someone bought one back then and has been saving it... other wise... need to find one out of a donor car.. noshun 01-29-2005, 01:02 AM Yuo will want a 1995 Cavalier Z24. This is your best bet although an olds Achieva or Calais will have the same, if not ever so slgithly different motor. Some of the olds made 190hp stock! If you heard about the 2.3 on here it may have been me. The only thing about the 2.3 is that the block isn't as strong as the 2.4 which is a revised version. The 2.4 has a longer stroke but narrower bore. The 2.3 would be better for Drag racing as you have a shorter Con Rod length due to the shorter stroke and there for you have alower rod ratio. Basically the Con Rod Pushed the crank with the most force when it is at 90 degrees to the crank throw. This happens sooner with a lower rod ratio therefore better acceleration. The 2.4 had the addition of balancing rods. These don't do a whole lot really and just take away power and on high power aplication are best removed. The best combination is said to be the 2.4 block minus the balance shafts mated to the 2.3 head from the cav. The olds W-41 head had a slightly different set up. The 2.3 head is better flowing and the stock cam has .03" more lift both intake and exhaust and aoubt 20 degress more duration so more air/fuel mix can enter the head. AS for mileage, you could be lucky and score a low miler that belonged to someone who just used it at weekends, adversely you could find one that has galactic miles on it. Either way the low miler could be the bad motor as it could have been run dry on oil or something. Just check the condition of everything. Check the compression etc. I'm always wary or engines that are TOO clean! Why was it cleaned? was it to hide something? hope this helps!
