Stealthbox - JL Audio subwoofer for XRMoskowitz 03-13-2002, 03:01 PM Hey, Check out www.jlaudio.com and look at their stealthboxes which are custom made for various vehicles. They don't have one currently for the X but the tech told me that with enough interest it will push them into making one. They said that right now there's interest, but not enough for them to produce it for the X. He told me to email the president of the company andy@jlaudio.com, the vp of marketing msmith@jlaudio.com, and tech support tech@jlaudio.com and if there's enough interest, we can get one produced. Address the email to all three of them and express interest in having a stealthbox made for the X. Just a sentence or two would do it. You don't even have to give your name, home address or phone number. Let's see the power of this forum and flood these guys with emails. Even if you don't want one, help out the ones that do and send the email anyway. Thanks, Russ Moskowitz P.S. Post here if you sent the email, I want to see how many we sent! superjens 03-13-2002, 03:22 PM Sounds like a good idea to me, I'm actually interested in a stealth box for my truck. I had a plain-old 12" box in it before but there was no stealth there, just great sound which I miss dearly! Schludwiller 03-13-2002, 03:23 PM Here's a pic of the pathfinder stealthbox. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/943290PTHFR_IC.jpg SarnX 03-13-2002, 06:39 PM I sent in an E-mail. Hope this will help. SarnX. rhombus 03-13-2002, 07:15 PM I also sent one. I'm not upgrading the Stereo just yet but they might be a good idea when I'm ready. Goliath the X 03-13-2002, 08:32 PM I'm not upgrading my stereo yet either, but when I do, I want one of these. Out of the way bass, won't interfear with all my other crap in my X. The email is sent! ChuckH 03-18-2002, 04:03 AM Stealthboxes are real nice, but they aren't cheap. Don't be surprised if they end up at $600+ for one if they do make them. Good stuff though! :) superjens 03-18-2002, 04:36 AM Anybody hear anything back from them, by the way? First rule of good customer service - make each and every one of them feel important. Personal gripe. :( RMoskowitz 03-18-2002, 10:08 AM I haven't heard back but will try to call them today and see what the status is. I don't suspect that five emails will do the trick though. Even if we sent a hundred emails, they probably wouldn't make their decision until they were ready to r&d their new lineup. They only produce about six new models a year and the first half of 2002 is already spoken for. Will post the results of my phone call anyway. Goliath the X 03-18-2002, 07:15 PM If they are only producing 6 new models a year they need some new people working for them. 6 new box designs is not many to produce a year. IMO. I figured the price would be too much. I'll build my own enclosure when I start my stereo mod phase. My plan is for a single 10 or 12 but I'll build the box and amp in one unit so I can easily remove it when I need the extra room. And yes, a return email would be nice. Even if it was a form letter. superjens 03-18-2002, 07:17 PM Foot in mouth! A bunch of us received an email from the president today. Part of it said "Until your emails started rolling in, we had not had a lot of consumer interest in a Stealthbox for the Xterra. We are now re-thinking our position, thank you" And noted that they'd need to borrow somebody's Xterra to test it out in. Sweet! rhombus 03-18-2002, 07:26 PM Yes I just got one today. I would be willing to lend my Xterra if they pay for the trip to Florida. (kinda far from Toronto, Canada :) ) RMoskowitz 03-19-2002, 09:48 AM Hey Guys, We received the following email from the President of JL Audio, Andy Oxenhorn: Hello All, Thank you all for your interest in a Stealthbox for the Xterra. Your advocacy is overwhelming. Until your emails started rolling in, we had not had a lot of consumer interest in a Stealthbox for the Xterra. We are now re-thinking our position, thank you. Part of our Stealthbox development effort requires intensive listening tests for what possible position within the truck sounds the best. So if any of you live in South Florida, you would help expedite our decision by lending us your vehicle for a day or two. Thank you for your confidence in our products and keep checking our web site for possible Xterra Stealthbox developments. Sincerely, Andy Oxenhorn President Although we shouldn't get too excited, it does look promising. I would totally donate my truck except I live in New York. For anyone in South Florida who is on this board, PLEASE contact Andy Oxenhorn at JL Audio in Florida to have your vehicle be the test for the soon to be produced Xterra Stealthbox. I'm sure that you'll qualify for a freebee when its produced. Also, some ratings for me would be greatly appreciated so I don't look like such a newbie. Thanks, Russ Moskowitz ScottG 03-19-2002, 10:26 AM Originally posted by RMoskowitz Also, some ratings for me would be greatly appreciated so I don't look like such a newbie. Thanks, Russ Moskowitz We have ratings? I think Warmonger is from somewhere in Florida. RMoskowitz 03-28-2002, 11:14 AM Update: Just received the following email from JL audio. Sounds like a blow off to me. If anyone is in the S. Florida area, we can probably get them to make one for the X alot sooner as stated by the President of JL Audio, Andy Oxenhorn (see above post). Message: Russell, At this time there is nothing available but we are aware of the popularity of the vehicle. Currently we are working on other models of vehicles that we have built stealth boxes for, but the models have changed so we have to revamp them. Check back with us in a couple of months to see where we are at on the project. We'll have more information at that time. Moskowitz at RMoskowitz@Finzfirm.com wrote: Hi, I am an avid fan of your products and would be eternally grateful if you would produce a stealthbox to fit the Nissan Xterra. You already have one for its brother, the Pathfinder, why not make one for the Xterra? I have a 2002, but the interior has changed very little since its inception in 1999 (and the rear cargo area has not changed at all). This would require just one stealthbox model for a 4 year model production and since they just updated the Xterra, I'm sure they won't be changing it again for years to come. Please, please, please make the Stealthbox for the Xterra. Thank you in advance for your consideration Sincerely, Russell Moskowitz Goliath the X 03-28-2002, 08:45 PM I got the same letter, didn't get the first one though:confused: Beau6183 05-05-2002, 01:13 PM First post here, so howdy! I sent them an email too, even though it seems kinda pointless. I've always wanted a stealth box, but have never driven the right kind of vehicle. OmahaSpeed 04-29-2003, 10:29 PM New here too.........they have my vote for the Xterra stealth box.....I currently own one in my F150 and it rocks. JL get crackin.......I'll be the first to buy one. jlwardn 05-02-2003, 11:01 PM I sold a car the the JL Audio Rep for Michigan. He gave me the new Product Brochure. They now have the stealthbox of the Xterra. I call my local stereo shop and they did not even know it was available. They called me back and told me $499. I think it is a little steep. You can also buy the factory sub and new plastic trim panel off of the new 2003 model. I just am not sure of the sound you can get out of a 8" Rockford. Any other ideas would be helpful. superjens 05-03-2003, 09:51 AM Does that $499 include an amp? Probably not, right? For $100 CDN I bought a sealed 10" box and Kicker sub, tossed it onto my $200 CDN 180-watt Phoenix Gold amp, my mirrors shake and I can feel the base in my chest. Stealthy? Sure, pull back the cover and you can't see anything back there. :D Thanks JL, but you went too big, too expensive, too useless. ChuckH 05-03-2003, 09:27 PM Right on Superjens! I have about $300 into my amp and 10" subwoofer too and it works just dandy. It doesn't take up anymore space than the JL and I can move it anywhere I want in the back of the truck or remove it completely in less than a minute. The JL box is so big and takes up so much floor space I hardly think it's stealthy! I have seen some nice JL boxes (like the ones they offer for the Audi A4), but the Xterra box went wrong and the price is outrageous. Schludwiller 05-04-2003, 12:15 AM I dropped a bunch of coin and power into a stereo for my VW Camper. My hearing has returned about 5 years later. Yeah, call me Gramps. :smoka: rrdstarr 05-04-2003, 02:44 PM Originally posted by ChuckH Right on Superjens! I have about $300 into my amp and 10" subwoofer too and it works just dandy. Yup, just unplug it and it is out of the way for stuff. White Xterra 00 08-09-2003, 11:31 PM hey I just cheked the JL website... 8-9-03 and it said they are or did making stealth boxes for the X! http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/xterra.html There's the link! White Xterra 00 08-23-2003, 09:04 PM I live in S. Flordia..... Tampa FL to be exact.
