1996 Dodge Intrepid blown start/run fuse under hood

I hope there is someone out there that can shed some light on this!!!! I have a 1996 Dodge Intrepid w/remote start. This morning, much to my surprise, it started with the remote, eventhough it was 12 degrees. Most of the time if it is below 18 I have to do out & start it with the key. It ran for about 6-8 mins. & cut off. It would not re-start with the remote, nor would it re-start with the key. DEAD, NOTHING,NOTTA!!! It turns out that the start run fuse under the hood blew. I replaced it w/the park lamp fuse of the same amps so that I could get to work. Stopped to buy fuses & was told that a fuse of this type blowing is a rare occurrance & could be a symptom of bigger problems. Anyone with any knowledge of this please respond. It will be so greatly appreciated.

what amp is that fuse? If it's 40 amps or more, you have a wire that's badly shorted to ground.

Sounds like a very crappy remote starter or install. My remote starters always start. It was below 0 the other night and started just fine.

I had it installed over a year ago. It just quit working after that fuse blew. The keyless entry still works but it will not start the car.

Well, most remote starters have multiple fuses. My guess is that one of the main fuses for the heavy wires had blown but the smaller fuse for the "brain" to work is OK. You'll probably have to take it to the installer to look at.
