01 Stratus transmission probs?

I think I'm having transmission issues with my 2001 Stratus. We recently had a cold snap (temps below 0 for a week straight) which was when these probs started. Also, I was rear-ended a month ago and have only had my car back for 2 weeks, so I'm wondering if there may be a correlation.........

The car jerks when I slow down, but only at about 30mph when downshifting from third to second gear - never at any other speed or gear change. Also, sometimes it doesn't seem to want to go into gear. For instance, I put it into drive and it doesn't move. It just sits like it's in neutral. It's done this before when I put it into reverse, too.

I thought that I might have water in the gas line or a frozen gas line and added a bottle of HEAT, but that didn't fix it. I let it warm up for 30 mins plus and it still does this.

Any ideas what the problem might be? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

the not moving problem is more than likely the front pump cause it is losing prime and not doing anything. the downshift problem could be from the same component but it probably has a flash for the tcm to correct it.

sounds like a seal or bearing failure and/or valvebody concern

with the downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear, make sure you're in the "D" position and not "3". What happens is that when the vehicle slows down, it automatically downshifts to second gear for compression braking.

I'm having the same exact problems with my 01 stratus. I was involved in an accident and when I received my car back it was doing exactly what you have described. I have spent over $2500.00 trying to fix the problem, but no one can figure it out. If you managed to figure it out, please let me know.

make sure the filter didnt get knocked off from the hit. this means pulling the pan.

Just in case anyone else has this problem(please refer to my earlier post) my mechanic finally figured out (after several thousand dollars wasted) that the transmission computer had been damaged in the accident and that was what was causing the car to jerk when slowing down below 30. Changed it and the jerking stopped.
