The Interior lights in my 1994 LeSabre will not turn off. I cannot find the door switches, the interior illumination delay relay, or the "black box" that controls the lighting system. Can someone please tell me if this is a common problem - and if so, what is the common cause? Can someone please tell me the location of the aforementioned switches/relays? Thanks!!

Well, to turn them off permantly, remove the lowest, right-most relay in the relay center under the passenger side dash. Look near the right wall and you'll see a panel with a few fuses at the bottom and a few relays plugged in (black boxes). Pull the one mentioned above and your interior lights will go out.

To further test the system picture the relay hookups as follows:

2

1 3 4

5

These are the electrical connections as you see them looking at the connectors of the now removed relay. Before testing, move the interior lights dimmer to minimum brightness (all the way to the left).

Step 1) Connect a voltmeter between 1 and ground. See if you have voltage (enough to power a test light). If not, check wiring.
Step 2) Connect a voltmeter between 5 and ground. See if you have voltage (enough to power a test light). If not, check wiring.
Step 3) Connect a voltmeter between 1 and 4. See if you have voltage (enough to power a test light). If not, check ground wiring.
Step 4) Connect a voltmeter between 2 and 5. See if you have voltage when your doors are open or your interior dimmer is set to maximum brightness. If not, check wiring and front door lock assembly or rear door latch assembly switches.

Your problem is that you are getting voltage when you shouldn't at one of the terminals. (Terminal 2?) Beyond this I can't help you.
