I have a 96 Chevy 1500 Crewcab shortbed(two frames butt welded together with crew cab body put on).

My question is how do you replace the carrier bearing? I've had the drive shaft out when I lowered it but couldn't figure out how to get the bearing off to replace it. What's the trick?

Are you talking about the midshaft bearing or the differential carrier bearings?

CENTER BEARING REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement-Two-Piece or Propeller Shaft Replacement-Three-Piece.
Remove the front or intermediate propeller shaft. Remove the center bearing.
Stand the propeller shaft on end in press with the center bearing supported by press bars.
Press the propeller shaft down and off the center bearing. Install the center bearing onto the propeller shaft by pressing the center bearing onto the shaft using a press.
Install the front or intermediate propeller shaft.
Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement-Two-Piece or Propeller Shaft Replacement-Three-Piece.
Install the center bearing.
Tighten the center bearing nuts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.)

If no press available: cut bearing off (carefully) and use a piece of rigid pipe long enough to clear shaft (approx 10 inch) and diameter should be the size of inner bearing race. DO NOT ponud on the bearings outer shell or the rollers them self

So it has to be pressed off. That's kind of what I had figured. Thanks for the help.
