New ground wire for blower motor

My blower motor will often stop blowing completely when it is extremely cold. If i pop the hood and give it a tap it comes right back on, so someone mentioned running a ground wire from the motor casing to a "good" spot on the engine. I picked up some wire and am wondering what the best way to do this is? Do I need to take the casing off? Thanks in advance for any help. It's Cold!!!!

Thanks!

Remove one screw from the blower, clean to bare metal and attatch to a bolt on the engine,Just be sure that it is heavy enough to carry the load of the motor. If your not sure talk to someone who does.

Thanks! I picked up some automotive wire(16 gauge I think), which seems like it will handle the load of the motor...Just one last question, do I just remove a screw from the casing or do I actually take the casing off and put the wire inside the casing? Thanks again!!

For now just try using the screw and see if theres a change,It just might be a feed problem(relay ect.).When and if this happens have you tried changing the speed of the blower?

I have tried changing from high to low on the temp control inside the car and it doesn't help...the blower still doesn't come on, is this what you mean?

Thanks again!

Have you checked the plugs in the rear of the blower? I had the same problem last week and it was cause by a short in the connectors. The funny thing is you can't see it if you don't unplug the connectors. I want to the junk yard and got a use plug for free replace the old one and bigo! I am not freezing anymore.
Hope that help.

I checked the connectors on the outside of the blower motor, and they seemed ok. The problem seems to be getting worse now though, it shuts down almost everytime I drive the car and of course comes back on with a little tap. I'm going to try to rig a ground wire today as previously suggested. Thanks!

Just an update...I ran a new ground wire from the blower casing to the engine and so far so good. I tested the blower motor as much as I could by trying all settings on the temp control, shutting the engine off and restarting(these were the times when the blower failed most), and I couldn't get it to quit blowing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I think it may actually be working properly now! Thanks again to all for your help!
