have a 1990 buick lesabre that won't start when cold .... read some forums that said they had same problem and fixed ther's buy replacing coil pack; they did'nt say if they had checked the coil for spark but I did and I'm getting a spark on all coil connections. Does anyone think even though I still have a spark the coil pack needs replacing and why?

What colour is the spark, at about an 1/8 of an inch it should be a nice crisp blue, if it is orange the coil is weak. A couple of other things to consider are how old the pulgs are, is the battery turning the engine over fast enough to start it, have you ever put gas line antifreeze in.

Hi romeocar
refer to my post on

I also had what appeared to be a healthy spark, coil ohmed out to spec, just wouldn't start. I picked up a coil and module but only replaced the coil pack. We've had some -40 weather and the car has started - no problem.

Good luck!

Thanks for your replies
Well while changing the coil pack found a green sticky tar-like material all over the inside of the assembly .... cleaned off as much as I could and installed the new top coil pack, don't know yet if it will start when cold but it still takes 2 tries to start as is. Anyone know what this material could be and if I should replace the bottom section of the coil pack assembly?
