How can you tell if it's a 350?Michel73 01-19-2005, 03:40 PM Hi there, sometime ago i've bought a '88 carprice an the man who sold me the car said it was a 350 instead of a 305. I know for sure that there has been an engine swap but i,m not convinced it is a 350. Can you tell by the outside what engine it is? The man claims it is a L98 (camaro?) I'm asking because i have to order a new exhaust system from the states (i,m from holland, europe) and when i order it i want to be sure that the stock exhaust for the 305 will fit my car. thanks. michel HLandin 01-19-2005, 05:44 PM One way to tell is to visit www.carfax.com and enter the VIN number and it will tell you information about features such as engine displacement; however, I don't know if it will tell you the current setup or just the stock options. You also mentioned you live in Europe; I don't know if a record is kept after the car goes overseas. Another way to tell is to find the engine VIN that is supposed to be stamped on the engine block, but I'm not sure where. If you can find it, you could use that VIN to identify the engine by doing some research on your computer. '97ventureowner 01-20-2005, 12:13 AM Try this link:http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/sblock.html There is a wealth of info on this page concerning Chevy V8 engines and their identification. Michel73 01-20-2005, 12:37 AM Thanks, i'll try that. michel bowtiebuba 01-22-2005, 02:51 AM if you dip stick runs into the block it is a 350, if the dip stick runs into the oil pan it is a 305. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
