For several weeks, every now and then, the ignition switch would get stuck. I could always get it unstuck before yesterday. Now it is stuck in the turn on position-with the key in it! Had to disconnect the battery cable to turn off the car. NOW WHAT?

I have a 91 Corsica and although I have never had problems like yours with it, I did with my S-10 just recently. I looked in the GM service manual I still have for my Corsica and it seems the actual switch is inside the column further down, and is very much like the hi-lo dimmer switch, as it uses a rod to activate, which is controlled by the switch. Most likely, yours has worked loose (switch) and the rod is jammed. I worked with my S-10 for about 10 minutes, and got it freed, and has not done it since. However I plan to check it when it finally gets warm again. On my Corsica, I had trouble with the dimmer switch, and was able to re-tighten the clamp holding it. The major problem is that it appears you may have to remove the steering wheel to work on it properly, which is a concern since these vehicles have air bags. I would look under the dash and see if I could somehow get into the column *still have the battery disconnected) and hopefully release the jam. Or, work with some more with the key.

Thanks for the advice. I had someone take a look at it and it turned out I needed a new cylinder lock which was about thirty bucks. Appreciate your taking time to reply.
