Rear Disc Brakes

I recently replaced the front discs and pads on my Limited 2002 without a problem. With 130,000 km - Canadian eh! I thought I'd replace the pads on the rear discs. I pulled the rear wheels off and can't figure how to get the calipers off to put on the new pads. Any diagrams would be appreciated as well as advice.

Usually they don't need changing until three times for the front pads. Are you sure they need it or you just want to do it? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Remove the bolt at the bottom of the caliper(facing inward), remove the bolt on the cable clamp for the emergency brake cable, and pivot the caliper upward. You will need a special tool to push the caliper piston back in. You have to push in and turn at the same time (sounds harder than it really is). I got my tool at my local Auto Zone- they had them in a bin next to the register- About $7.00 as I remember....

Any idea of the size of the cable clamp bolt. Would a C clamp do the trick of pushing in the caliper? Any tricks to make it simplier are greatly appreciated.

A C clamp will work fine.

You have to push and turn the piston at the same time. I used some needle nose pliars with light pushing and turning pressure and got them to retract with very little effort. Good Luck.
