My brother loves Town Cars and had to junk his 1988 after 200k miles of good service due to rust and stuff just wearing out. I read the link on the 92-97's and I believe those are in his price range. What options or features should we avoid, such as air suspension or other fancy gadgets that are more trouble than they are worth. We live in Buffalo, N.Y. how do these years handle the snow ? Thanks for all replies !!!

You can't avoid Air Springs unless someone removed them.
Some thing will break on all models, like the heated seats for example.
Try to find one where the intake manifold was already replaced. The new one has the first crossover made of aluminum.

Your base models are:
Executive
Signature
Cartier

Each have different stock packages, and each offer different options as well.

Check KBB.com for the whole list.

The plastic thermostat housing is found on the 1996 and 1997 Town Cars. Avoid them if it has not been changed. I had a 1997 T.C. Sig, fully loaded. Two weeks after purchace it cracked the intake internally, not externally and the engine was junk. I have owned 7 TC's from 81 to 97, and all but the 97 gave me no troubles. I have a 1995 now, and the power steering pump gave out at 122,000 miles. Not too bad. My last Town Car (1994) made it 264,000 miles before I set it away. The trans gave out, but it still ran well and ALL the options, even the a/c still worked. For the money, a used Town Car is a bargain. Big, smooth, and very relaible.

I have a 1995 Lincoln Town Car , Signature Series. I have bought a replacement climate cluster and I am going to install it myself. Does anyone have a diagram for this job?. My email is: ajguinness@shaw.ca . Thanks, Alan.

Alan,
I'll do you one better.. would you be interested in the official factory service manual? I just happen to have the 1995 Car edition, I can upload it somewhere for you, or send you a CD copy.

BTW. The ISO is 317,604kb Zips to 201,479kb for up/download.

UPDATE:
Here's the CD in ISO.ZIP (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GWBTZM23) format.
This is a freebie hosting service so it makes you jump through a few hoops before the file download can begin. You don't need to get any of their advertised stuff, just the ISO download.

Hi Steve

I am going to have to dump the 91 and upgrade to a later model, to get in on all the cool stuff you have on the 95.:p

The cheaper model town cars have less junk to go wrong. All them extras are nice but you will pay for them in repair bills. Keep it simple. The ride and drive are the same .
