Is this an automatic tranny? It's been a few years since I removed an engine/transmission assembly fron a car, but I seem to remember the torque converter was attached to the flywheel, and you had to get a wrench in there and take out the bolts.

You need to take the bolts off that connect the ring gear to the torque converter if it is an automatic. If it is a standard you will need to either slide the transmision back or the engine forward to get the input spine out of the clutch assembly. In either case you need to support the transmision or it will fall forwar as there is only a rear mount. Another thing that may be holding the engine to the tranny is the the two alignment dowels that go from the back of the engine into the bell housing.
