personally i would choose the supra but for the price the 240sx would be better, i love my 240sx but the supra is rare now and would be nicer

the best240 you could get would be any one of them, but i would suggest that you get an older, early 90s or maybe the mid90s ones, try to pay no more than 3 grand and use the rest to either rebuild and turbo or swap out the motor your choice either way you can get to enough powre to run a supra

i can't help you with the choice of rebuilt/turbo or swap that is something that you have to choose for yourself.

everything has its good points and bad, use this question what am i going to do with this car and how much will i spend.

and people please don't use originality as a response that pisses people off and confuses others, plus there are alot of KA-T out there now and even V8 240sx's soo.....

well depending on your taste...you can get any year 240 you want...89-98 with 8 grand. depending money wise you can get them to about the same speed with money...if you bought a s13 240 you could easily do a sr swap or ka-t with 8 grand. and probably leave money for a decent suspension setup...i think just about everyone here would say 240...but alot of us are pretty bias about that though.

you probably won't find the answer here to the supra vs 240 question. go look for 1/4 mile times people have recorded and compare..
and with 8 grand, you can do anything you want with an s13, maybe get away with a cheap turbo kit and suspension on a 95-96 and not much with a 97-98.. you'd probably only have enough for suspension.. but it depends how much you pay for the car.. one year of the 240 is really "better" than another.. the 89-90 s13 has a slightly different engine than the 91-93, so you COULD look at that as an advantage, and also the pop up lights are a trademark of the 240.. the 95 and up are only different in looks.. you couldn't go wrong with any year.. its basically about what you want to do with the car. if you want to drift then get an s13 and you'll have enough leftover for mods.. if you want to drag then do the same.. for street, you'll have enough money for any year + mods.. its a toss up

The supra will own in the quarter and power capability. I mean, the 2JZ is capable of making 900whp with stock internals.

But if you only have $8k, get a 240. You are not going to find a TT supra for $8k. I like the 95s.

I talked to a guy who used to own a supra, now he has a s13, he said that supra handles like heaven and can kill anything on the top end. But for the amount of money he put into the s13, it would not even be enough to buy a supra N/A, and it is as fast or faster then a stock TT. So if you have 8g then you can end up with faster and better s13 then a crappy supra (for 8g you can't afford a nice one)

which kind of supra if your budges it the 6-8k i presume pre 93 the older stylke keep in mind the older style is HEAVY but with a 1jz swap u can make them move but with money u could go 240 and swap in a sr20 and build up comes down to what u are doing and if u like looks over performance etc...

I was test drove a 92 Toyota Supra and yes you could definately feel the power diference...but when I drove my 240. I knew right away that this was it...There was jsut something to the not already over 200HP that made me like it more. I dont know how to explain it...I just felt better with the 240.

3000$US is like 3600$CDN. But up here they are a little more expensive and rare.

I saw a ad for a 93 TT Supra out of Mesa Az for $8,000, seems quite cheap if it was decent...

However, what I like about the 240's is the liight nimble handling and reliability and decent gas mileage...

And...That was a SWEET old Trans Am in Billy Madison :) Looked like a 79 to me...

I love the SR20DET, but the 2JZ owns! It is a beast and the transmission that goes with it is virtually indestructable.

Being that you only want to spend 6-8K a MKIV Supra with a 2JZ wouldn't fit into that range, add another $20k. MKIII's have 7M's and are under 6K. The 7M isn't a bad motor, 400 rwhp on pump gas is easy but they do have HG problems and the cars are almost 1000lbs heaver than a 240SX.

id say buy my 95 S14 for $7,000 :) you can see my mods at the bottoms, and its black and it has 5 speed and its so awesome... im actually saving up for a 93+ TT supra thats why im willing to let go of my s14... i wouldnt let it go for any other car!!!

you can't really compare the sr to the 2jz.. one is a 4 banger and the other is a straight 6... thats like saying the altima and silvia are closely related

driftking777
01-23-2005, 07:15 PM
...or like comparing the SR20det to the Rb26dett...no comparison

am i the only one who thinks this is a stupid question? He doesnt even mention the types of supra or 240sx hes comparing. You might as well say are mercedes faster than porsche? you could be comparing a 1903 mercedes and a 2005 porsche for all we know. Please detail your question a bit more. If you were comparing a 2jz-gte supra, against a stock 240, then the supra is way better!

01-24-2005, 09:32 PM
what type of engines do these stock cars have?

burnout 180
01-24-2005, 09:42 PM
generally the stock supra would own the stock 240.
but it would also own your wallet.

240's are fun to drive and have alot of potential with a good price.

So you ask what engines are in the cars, then you on to state that the Supra will kill the 240? Weird, anyways, the 240SX has a KA24(D)E and the Supra has either the 7MGTE (MKIII) or 2JZ-GTE (MKIV). I'm talking the turbo models, just take the T out of the engine code for the non-turbo model.
