Cold Pipe & Hot Pipe sizes...HoosierDrifter 01-13-2005, 05:41 PM i have an SR20DET red top stock turbo with a front mount intercooler. i need to know what piping size is best. im planning 2.5 for the hot pipe and 3" for the cold pipe thanks -Dustin nissanfanatic 01-13-2005, 06:34 PM Your hot pipe should be the same size as the compressor outlet. Any more and you are just going to create more lag. For the cold pipe, just go with what the intercooler outlet is. IIRC the T25&28 use a 1.875" outlet on the compressor so you could go with a 2" hotpipe. One of the guys on ka-t.org made 400whp with a 2" hotpipe so restriction is not an issue. Good luck. R.W.240 01-13-2005, 07:50 PM Drifting on Hoosiers... can I have some of your money? the throttle body on the SR is about 2.75" Im not sure about the Compressor outlet but most people use a 2.5" hotside. HoosierDrifter 01-14-2005, 12:21 AM hmm...i call myself hoosierdrifter just cause im from indiana... lol anyhoo... 2 inch just sounds too small for the hot side. both inlet and outlet on the intercooler is 2.5 inch... im thinkin 2.75 for the cold and 2.5 or 2.25 for the hot logik23 01-14-2005, 12:46 AM You think it's to small, but nissanfanatic knows it's not. nissanfanatic 01-14-2005, 11:19 AM If the compressor outlet is 2", then it will only flow as much as a 2" pipe will flow. Using a 2" pipe is going to maintain velocity along with the maximum flow of the compressor. nissanfanatic 01-14-2005, 11:31 AM Piping Choices Most installations are plumbed with thin wall mandrel bent steel tubing. This tubing is available at race fab shops in various radii and diameters, generally in U or J configurations, which can be sectioned to fit together into the desired shape. It is relatively inexpensive and can be TIG or gas welded. Aluminum tubing can also be used but is harder to find and more expensive. Piping diameters are dependent mainly on engine airflow which is a function of HP. For engines up to 350hp, 2.25 inch tubing works well. 350 to 500 hp installations should use 2.5 inch. Engines above 500hp should use 2.75 or 3 inch tubing. Some means to take up vibration and engine movement to chassis mounted intercoolers is required. This usualy means flexible couplings. Moulded radiator hoses are available in larger diameters and various shapes and are generally safe at the temperatures and pressures required for street applications. You may have to cut or enlarge holes in your sheet metal for the piping to run to the intercooler. Watch hood clearnce and ground clearance to the pipes if they run over or under the radiator. Silicone hump hoses are also available to take up movement. http://www.sdsefi.com/techcooler.htm So you are going to be making under 350hp by a lot. Save yourself some money and use 2". Good luck. HoosierDrifter 01-14-2005, 02:02 PM well...i do plan to upgrade the turbo in the near future and make near 400hp. so 2 1/4 is what i will most likely use Tims_240 01-14-2005, 02:14 PM where are you at in indiana? HoosierDrifter 01-15-2005, 01:14 PM Tim... i live in Terre Haute... and ur in ft wayne right?
