if you know what your doign an lsvtec will be best.
first hand speaking b16s are overhyped.

His engine is gone, because his t-belt broke. He's got $750 to work with, to get a new motor. He wants to know if he should get another b18a and put the vtec head on it or get a b16a, and which of those 2 choices would be cheaper to do.

BTW - The b16a2 is a '99-'00 Civic Si motor. Do you mean the jdm b16a SiR2?

I would imagine he meant usdm b16a. If he has $750 to work with..you conclude that. Anyway, wanting to build something from cheap instantly with lots of power needs a little rewording. Personally, I would just go with the LS to get me by. You can find a complete LS longblock for $300. Maybe I'm being biased all of a sudden because now that I have two extra LS longblocks in my garage, I am about to dump one into an EF. Shouldn't cost much, just need motor mounts.
