2004 Intrepid Stall and Check Engine Light

I own a 2004 Dodge Intrepid SXT with the 3.5 High Output engine with 37,500 miles. A couple weeks ago, the check engine light came on and stayed on for about 20 minutes then turned off. Late last week while sitting at a stop light, the car stalled. It started right back up and ran fine through today. This morning, after about 5 minutes of driving, the check engine light came on and after another 10 minutes of interstate driving, the car stalled at 55 mph, caught itsself and continued running normal after that.

Any suggestions on what this could be, please help. Warranty ran out 1500 miles ago.

It sounds like maybe a loose connector at the Camshaft Position Sensor. I suggest you wiggle the wiring to the sensor while the engine is idling to see if it will stall. Disconnect the CPS connector. Check the (-) (black/lightblue wire) with a VOM for a good ground. With the ignition switch to 'On' position (engine not running) Check the Reference voltage between the Orange wire (+) terminal and the (-) Black/Lt Blue terminal. Voltage should read 8V. If reference voltage is present, check for cranking signal. Install the electrical connector to the CPS. Backprobe the tan/yellow wire (+) and the Black/Lt.Blue (-) wire and monitor voltage while turning the engine over very slowly by tapping the Ignition switch without starting the engine. Monitor the voltage. Voltage should fluctuate from 0.3V to 5V
