b16a or b18bdefman 01-12-2005, 12:41 AM I have a 94 civic with a 96 jdm b16a motor swap which i purchased about a year ago from inlinefour.com to tell the truth i was rather disappointed with the b16a swap, The quickest time i have been able to run in a 1/8th mile is 9.55 or 8.89 with a 75 shot. would it be worth the trouble to buy a b18b1 swap. I know LS tranys have really long gears so i was planning on using my b16 tranny. Also has anyone bought a motor or heard any reviews on japanstarmotor.com crxlvr 01-12-2005, 12:23 PM what you could do, is buy a b20 block and put your b16 head on there. while your at it maybe upgrade some internals in the process. JDMsweetz 01-13-2005, 02:18 AM I have not had any contact with that website, so I wouldn't know. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who has, either. I agree with the above response in regards to the b20vtec. If not, go for LS block, either way, you get our point. I'm sure you can still sell your b16 block or part it out if it's got some internals. If you need though, just t hought I'd let ya know that I have a LS longblock/new wiseco pistons/eagle rods/and darton sleeves sitting around looking for a new owner. :) CivicSpoon 01-13-2005, 02:25 AM go to honda-tech.com and do a search for that site. I haven't seen too many good reviews about them, but maybe I missed those. S13wanabe 01-16-2005, 11:54 PM A b18b will definatly be faster. Especially if you keep the b16 trannie. What you should do is get the b18b bottom end and put it on the b16 head and put the b16 pistons in the b18b bottom end. It will bump you up to about 11.7:1 compression. Get a fuel pressure regulator and you're set. Make sure to get new piston rings and hone the block. While you're at it get stronger rod bolts and put them in. The b18b only weak point are the rod bolts. They stretch at high rpm's. Replace those and you are set for 8,500 rpms and low 14's to high 13's in the quarter mile. You may even be faster. JDMer_00 01-17-2005, 12:38 AM the b16a is found in the DA integras, its a 1.6l 145hp vtec, the vtec kicked in at about 4500rpm, if you go with another motor, i recommend eithier the JDM CTR b16b, or if you wanna go a little cheaper do an LS VTEC, i think that would be your best bet. S13wanabe 01-17-2005, 01:28 AM No. The motor he has now has about 170hp and 116tq at the crank. My lsvtec is making around 185whp-190whp and 138wtq. I have pr3 pistons in it and a fuel pressure regulator. A had it dynoed before the pistons and regulator and it made 168.9whp and 134wtq. Just do what I said man. You will be happy with it. superbluecivicsi 01-17-2005, 04:03 AM what are your goals with a 75 shot on the b16a? b18b? i think you should think fresh with what you got and work with what you got. defman 01-17-2005, 10:27 AM I would really like to have more bottom end power, I am not looking to replace the internals or anything extreme. I'm still in college and i need something reliable to drive utill i graduate. I'm also on a budget so I'm either going to get a b18b1 or another b16a, Either way i'm still going to keep my nitrous kit, although if i get an ls motor I am probably going to reduce the pills to a 55 shot. whtteg 01-17-2005, 05:26 PM I would really like to have more bottom end power, I am not looking to replace the internals or anything extreme. Why drop it to a 55 shot on the B18B? It will handle more nitrous than the B16A. JDMer_00 01-17-2005, 08:23 PM so then he has the B16ag1 superbluecivicsi 01-17-2005, 09:34 PM I would really like to have more bottom end power, I am not looking to replace the internals or anything extreme. I guess nitrous has slowly worn my rings and now i have a loss of compression and my car smokes when i use nitrous. BUT, If an LS motor will withstand a 75 shot better than my B16 I Guess I will leave it. CivicSpoon 01-19-2005, 03:00 PM He means the b16a SiR, generation 1 of the b16a motor. How often do you hit the nitrous? And how long do you hold it for? Because if you're hitting it all the time or holding it on for more than a short period of time, any engine will get worn out. I know a guy who destroyed his rings the first day he got his nitrous setup, he was hitting a 75 shot in his Accord for about 1/2 a mile straight. All he did was install it, drove it to the shop my friend works at, was on his way home when he decided to race, and it was all over with before he got ¼ of the way home. He's still driving around running on 3 cylindars and it's been 2 years now. whtteg 01-19-2005, 03:31 PM Nitrous is all about tuning, if you have poor tuning then your motor will not last long on the bottle. The LS will hold a 75 shot just fine, you just need to make sure you have the appropriate safety devices and have it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing. Also the longest you should spray is about 15-20 seconds max then let the motor rest for a few mins. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
