have a 2000 v6 mustang, and when i was on the freeway, i took it to 118 mph,(regulated top speed) anyway i am almost posative that i was still in third gear at a little over 5,000 RPM's. :confused: i was wondering if im right, and if so whats with fourth gear that i cant get to?
also if i took the govenor off my car what would be the top speed, and would i hit fourth?

I seriously doubt that you were in 3rd gear at that speed. You would definately blow your engine if you were. Without the governor, I'm not sure about the top speed. I also have the same car and when I hit 115mph it was still pulling.

i drive a v6 auto and when you hit top speed limiter you are still in 3rd with about a grand to go on the rev limiter

guess the gears in them are really high like 2.23 or something dunno what the top speed is.

Top speed with my wife's 2000 V6 auto was 137mph and we was turning 4100~4300rpms.

**Edit 3rd was 5400-5500rpms for the auto

with my 01 v6 , I topped out at 126mph in 4th gear at 5300~5500rpms, and 138mph in 5th at around 3900~4100rpms.
3rd in the 5 speed topped out at 95mph at just about 5400rpms

I had the speed limiter moved up to 150mph and the rev limiter moved to 5700rpms on both cars.

I hit a wall.......too much wind resistance..... I think. both cars had petal to go.... I also don't know how much of that top was tires slipping on the dry lake bed. my partner paced me in his vet, and he was telling me my top speed, since my speedo's only go to 120. I do know it was pegged...

Hint.....If you ever go out to a dry lake bed.... take extra air filters....

You won't blow your motor at that speed, valve float starts at around 5700rpms..... so that wouldn't be the issue...
the normal rpm governer was set to 5300rpms on the 01 5 speed
and 4600rpms with the 00 v6 auto--but that is more of where the tranny was told to shift.

Yes the top speeds are regulated..... the speed limiter is set to just below the maximum speed rating that comes on the OE Tires.

the rev limiter on my 00 v6 auto is 5500 not 4600 ... everything is stock 3rd in an auto tops out somewhere around 120 .. so i wouldnt have any idea what it would run in 4th if it had the power it should be somewhere near 150
