hello everyone, i have a 94 explorer limited. the fuel gauge dosn't move at all. the guy i bought i from said it would work from time to time, but, it hasn't moved since i've owned it. is there an access panel under the seat to check the connection? also, it spark knocks real bad at 65/70 mph. the check engine light will come as it is sparkknocking and then goes off when it quits. any help is greatly appriciated.

May be the sending unit or the floater for the guage. Here is the procedure to see if it is the sending unit:

As for the knocking that could be any number of things. Have the computer read for possible stored codes. And yes they can read the computer-don't let the idiots at AUTOZONE or ADVANCE AUTO tell you otherwise. Good Luck

The fuel gauge is a common problem with explorers. In most cases, the culprit is the float in the gas tank. (It works pretty much like a toilet float.) Gas seeps into it. You're better off buying the whole float/fuel pump assembly and replace it. Re: the spark knock, again a common problem. Usually it's an EGR problem. Usually the problem is in the actuator and not the EGR itself. Also check the EGR if it works (using a low pressure vacuum pump).
