I have a 92 Ford Explorer 4X4 (4 Door Auto) and am going to change plugs next weekend. The Truck is Stock. I am looking for better millage (I enjoy more power, but I have a Summer car for power).

The Truck is solid. Its My daily Driver. I am looking to improve my millage. Any Plug Recomendations? Brand (NGK / Champion / etc.), Type (Copper / Platinum / Special / Etc.) and Which Code or number or what ev.

Any advise is appreciated.

Also any advice about what brand of Dist. Cap, Plug Wires, Air Filter, etc. etc. These will follow soon (Hopefully the next pay check or the one after.)

Once again I am looking to improve my millage.

Thanks...

I always use Fram/Autolite products (Allied Signal) just from personal preference.

Oil filter: 8A
Air filter: 5058
Plugs: AP765 (single platinum - center electrode only) or APP765 (double platinum - both electrodes)
Wire set: 86139 (regular) or 96139 ("professional")

You won't need a distributor cap since your truck has EDIS.

If your milage is low (13 mpg or less on the 4.0 V6), think about replacing the oxygen sensors (2) and clean the MAF filament.

Cheers!

For what it's worth,(if you have never tried this before) the plug on passenger side near the firewall can be a toughy. Almost no room on our 91 model. Quickest way I have found to change it is a 3/8 drive plug socket (with a 3/4 hex) and a 3/4 racheting wrench. Works pretty well. I think the double platinum is the way to go myself.

Yeah, that plug is a bear with all the A/C equipment hanging over it. I get to it by turning to the wheels to the left (although you could put it up on jack stands and remove the wheel) which allows enough room to get at the plug by going underneath the fender apron. Use an articulated socket adaptor (universal joint for socket wrenches) to get the correct angle on the plug. It's kind of cramped, but not too difficult.
