Picture Detailing all 11 Grease Zerk Locations swalt 01-08-2005, 10:48 PM
I have seen this question come up a few times. I won't take credit for it as I found the pic on an S10 forum, but figured it would be a great help for those who want to know where all the zerks are. By the way, this highlights all 11 fittings, but if you have had your U joints replaced, you have two more to grease at the front and rear of the drive shaft. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/116754All_Zerk_Fittings_1_-med.JPG BlazerLT 01-09-2005, 07:06 PM Excellent! texwill 01-10-2005, 02:48 AM Great info, will be doing that today! BlazerLT 01-10-2005, 11:07 AM Yea, would be a good idea. And also grease your u-joints if they are aftermarket and have been replaced in the past. 97blazermadness 01-10-2005, 12:22 PM That pic has helped me tremendously! Phillip Cross 01-10-2005, 04:03 PM My 2000 is missing a lot of those Are they to be installed by owner for better maintenance??? blazee 01-10-2005, 04:13 PM If your's has grease plugs, you will have to buy grease fittings, just remove the plug and screw the fitting in it's place. If you have a 4wd your lower ball joints are different, the fittings will be on top of the ball joint. If you have skid plates, they are blocking your view of the idler arm and pitman arm fittings. BlazerLT 01-10-2005, 04:17 PM Sealed balljoints cannot be greased, only aftermarket. Phillip Cross 01-10-2005, 04:22 PM Is it worth installing fittings/ I have 75K on my 2000 4wd blazee 01-10-2005, 04:25 PM Yes, it is worth it, if you want to prevent premature wear of your front end. You should grease them at least every 7,500 miles or 6 months. I do mine every 6,000 when I change the oil. BlazerLT 01-10-2005, 04:32 PM As stated earlier, sealed balljoints usually can't have a zerc installed but by what I have seen, most should have the grease fitting installed from the factory. Mine did. If not, they are sealed and can only be replaced, not greased. blazee 01-10-2005, 04:39 PM Mine had them when I got it too, but the Haynes book says occassionally they come with plugs and can be changed out to fittings. I haven't seen any like this myself, but appearently they are out there. And yes sealed ones can not be greased. Only way to maintain them is to replace them with after market with grease fittings. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
