1989 Olds 98 Heater issue
prginocx 01-08-2005, 07:11 PM Can't seem to get much heat out of this beast. Either in Auto mode with the temp set point at 85 degrees, or in manual mode with heat turned full on...For some reason the air coming out is only luke warm no matter how long the car warms up. Car has 3.8L V6, 4spd automatic, and automatic climate control system. The only really wierd thing I've noticed is sometimes you are cruising on the freeway, heater putting out strong airflow, but weak heating energy. Then y ou get off and park, but while you are idling all of the sudden the heat is very warm. I can't fathom why the heater would work better at idle than at cruise speed. 1990TS 01-10-2005, 09:54 PM Have you checked your coolant level in the radiator lately? Wait till system is stone cold before removing the cap. Sounds like system is low and maybe has an air pocket. Alibi 01-11-2005, 12:58 AM My brother's olds 88 had the same problem. He replaced his thermostat and it fixed the problem. It's a cheap part to replace first off :) back2life 01-23-2005, 11:23 PM Well What Was The Outcome? Olds98 03-20-2005, 07:03 PM Sounds like the thermostat. My '90 had the exact same problem, and a new part fixed it right up and improved the fuel economy markedly.
