After my car is warmed up (tipically just below middle on the gauge) I take it out for a drive. Well shortly there after, (not beating on it whatsoever... 3k shifts) the temp needle begins to rise. Eventually it gets on red.

Now this has been going on for about 2 weeks and we replaced the thermostat. But it's still doing it. I've heard it may just be a bad guage, or it's just reading it wrong. I don't know. We replaced a fuse too, but to no avail.

What do you guys think?




Btw, the coolent is still full and fine so that can't be it I don't believe.

is your radiator fan working?

if not your radiator fan, have you checked your water pump?

have you tested the thermo stat? i've gotten bad one straight out of the box :thumbsdow

i don't have a 92-95 diagram handy, however the 88-91 is realitivly the same. they are both d series engines. here is a diagram for testing the thermo...

Is there a sign or something that could tell me that the water pump is specifically not working?


And I checked, my fans are working so I'm hoping the water pump idea is the malfunction.

the water pump is a very basic part, it's not a complex piece. if you see water leaking from it, then it's no good.

Start your car and let it run for a minute or few. Then squeeze both of your coolent hoses. If pump is working properly you should be able to feel the water pressure inside the hoses. That's the easiest way to check...
