How many miles from a full tank?craigix 01-08-2005, 11:52 AM I was just wondering what fellow 7.4 and 8.1 litre owners have got from a full tank, best and worst. I have a full size dually and just got 170miles from a full tank! I think i'll have to take the lead out my boots and give her a service! Whats the best anyone has got? I'm thinking of driving real lite for a tankfull and seeing how it goes. Problem is all i do is city driving up and down hills :( -Craig bigoly 01-08-2005, 05:12 PM hi i have an 03 2500hd with 8.1 shotbed so i only have 26 gallon tank dont get much past 220mi city driving before looking for gas station. but have got as much as 300mi highway running dry. i have 3:73 rearend i belive the 3500 come with 4.10 gears im sure that makes big differance  Silverado Brethern 01-10-2005, 07:06 PM oh man 220 sounds really good to me. i have a 1500 with a 350 and 26 gallon tank rarely ever gets me over 225. craigix 01-10-2005, 09:12 PM Hey some interesting news here, i've been driving her real soft, not really going over 1500rpm if i can help it and from a quarter tank i've got just over 80 miles! This might get me 320-330 miles city driving (average speed about 11mph). I've also kept the tail gate open while trying this, not sure if it makes much of a diffrence but some people swear by it. If I can keep this up for the rest of the week i'll post what I managed to get, i'm pretty pleased and suprised so far. -Craig Silverado Brethern 01-10-2005, 10:57 PM yeh....common logic would tell ya the less you push the accelerator the less gas you burn. and puttin the tailgate down isnt all false, it'll prolly get you an additional 5 miles out of a tank. To really get decent mpg gains get a free flowing intake and exhuast, air in air out. craigix 01-11-2005, 03:58 PM Yeah its obvious, but its fun seeing just how much is possible, people keep asking me whats the best it can get and i'm planning to find out, I already have a free flowing intake etc. could do with getting a full service though. -Craig Silverado Brethern 01-11-2005, 08:36 PM Good to try just to experiment but dont make a habit of it because sooner or later tryin to see how much you get out of a tank of gas will cost you a new fuel pump, especially if ur truck has some miles on it. The only thing that cools a pump and keeps it from overheating, only takes once for them to burn up, is the gas in the tank. I rarely ever let mine get much lower than a 1/4 tank if its handy to fill up. Daci 01-24-2005, 03:21 PM I have a 1500 350 5.7 V8 and I got the throttle body spacer , Flowmaster exhaust and K&N filter( just the filter) and I am getting like 14 mpgI just got the cold air intake. I will install it tonight and then will test whats my new mpg. It supose to be better.I will let you guys know vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
